John Propper

John Propper is a multi-instrumentalist that has experienced teaching music to students from beginners to the college level. He holds a B.M. from Berklee College of Music and a M.M. from the University of Connecticut.
Working exclusively in independent schools, John has designed curriculum for two similar schools to Ranney in scope and size and feels that it is important to instill an understanding of music in every student in the school, not only the performers. He has taken groups of varied ages to festivals and trips across the country.
John has had a chance to work as a professional musician based in Boston, New York and Nashville. He has performed at venues across the country and has been active in recording. Playing the guitar, bass and trumpet has allowed John to work with varied artists and feels at home performing any style of music. He has performed with artists Joe Temperly and John Faddis and has taken master classes from Jim Hall, Peter Bernstein and Howard Alden.
John has arranged, conducted and performed with the University of Connecticut Jazz Ensemble. Studying the music of Duke Ellington, he was able to perform an in-depth analysis of his historical performance at the Newport Jazz Festival.
